The first Republican presidential debate took place, and one of the most notable moments came from the clash between former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. While neither of them is seen as the frontrunner for the Republican nomination, their campaigns gained more attention after the debate. Haley and Ramaswamy represent different factions within the GOP, particularly when it comes to foreign policy and the influence of former President Donald Trump on the party.
Ramaswamy voiced his concerns about the allocation of military resources, arguing that they should be used to secure the southern border of the United States instead of being deployed abroad. There is also a strain between the party and its business wing, as seen in West Virginia’s shift from a Democratic stronghold to a solidly red state. These conservatives believe that the country is in decline and want to restore values like family, faith, and hard work.
