In a fiery interview on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle,” Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) blasted special counsel Jack Smith and accused him of subverting the rule of law in his handling of former President Donald Trump’s classified documents case. Hawley argued that the timing of the new indictments was suspect, coming on the heels of the Hunter Biden scandal and revelations of self-dealing within the Department of Justice. He suggested that these charges were a desperate attempt to divert attention away from the misdeeds of the Biden administration.
Hawley did not hold back, expressing his outrage at the brazenness of the DOJ’s actions. He believed that this was a clear example of turning the rule of law on its head and warned of the dangerous precedent it could set for the future. According to Hawley, if the DOJ is allowed to get away with such blatant political targeting, the American people and our system of government will be at risk.
Meanwhile, the Associated Press reported that new charges and a new defendant have been added to the classified documents case against Trump. The indictment alleges that Trump instructed a staffer to delete camera footage at his Florida estate to obstruct the federal investigation into his possession of classified documents. While the focus has been on other cases related to the 2020 election, this demonstrates that the Mar-a-Lago investigation is still ongoing.

According to NBC News, the superseding indictment introduced a new defendant, Walt Nauta, and detailed a conversation between Nauta and another employee named Yuscil Taveras. It was alleged that Nauta asked Taveras about the length of time the server retained video and expressed a desire to have it deleted. However, Taveras refused, believing it was not within his authority to do so without consulting the security supervisor.
As the charges continue to pile up, Trump maintains his plea of not guilty. It’s clear that the former president is being targeted by a politically motivated witch hunt, with no evidence of actual wrongdoing. Yet, despite these baseless attacks, Trump’s popularity among Republicans remains strong. He still leads the pack as the Republican leader, unaffected by these ongoing investigations.
