Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) has dubbed himself the “Memer of Congress” as he injects some humor into the chaotic situation surrounding Rep. Jim Jordan’s (R-OH) bid for Speaker of the House. Collins took to his social media platform of choice, X/Twitter, to poke fun at the situation, even posting a photo of his modified business card with a bottle of Wite-Out.
While Jordan initially failed to secure the speakership on the first two ballots, it seemed that he might support a plan to temporarily empower Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry (R-NC) to pass and finance legislation, thereby delaying the speaker vote until January 2024. However, Collins found amusement in the sudden change of heart, commenting, “I’m starting to think that allowing Democrats to kick out the Republican speaker was not a good idea.”

Collins seems to be taking a lighthearted approach to the political madness, making jokes about the never-ending quest for 217 votes and reminiscing about the days when multiple speaker votes were conducted in a single day. He even playfully suggested that he himself should be considered for the role of speaker.
Despite his jokes, Collins does have serious concerns about the current state of affairs. He criticized the Biden administration for skyrocketing mortgage rates and expressed his frustration with the idea of delaying the speaker vote until January, stating, “The current people in charge don’t need to continue to be in charge. This is ridiculous. If any business worked like this place, it’d be out of business.”
As of now, it remains uncertain when the next speaker vote will take place. While Jordan has not made any official announcement, he has the power to call for a vote at any time. Whether it happens on Thursday or in January is still up in the air. But one thing is for sure, Rep. Mike Collins will continue to provide some much-needed comic relief during this speaker debacle.
