House GOP Pushes to Put Trump on $500 Bill and Rename Oceans in His Honor

The House of Representatives is abuzz with a surge of pro-Trump enthusiasm this summer. Republican lawmakers are on a mission to honor the former president, widely recognized as the leading contender for the 2024 election despite ongoing legal challenges.

In a bold show of support, Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) proposed a measure to rename sections of the oceans around the United States after Trump. And now, Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) is advocating for Trump’s likeness to grace the $500 bill, resurrecting denominations not in circulation for nearly eight decades.

Gosar’s proposed legislation, known as the “Treasury Reserve Unveiling Memorable Portrait Act of 2024” or the “TRUMP Act of 2024,” calls for the production of $500 bills featuring the 45th President of the United States. This move is seen as a direct response to the steep inflation plaguing the nation under President Joe Biden.

Throughout history, U.S. presidents have been immortalized on various forms of currency and national landmarks. From George Washington on the quarter to Abraham Lincoln on the penny, the tradition of honoring leaders is well-established. Ronald Reagan, too, has been posthumously celebrated with schools and airports bearing his name.

As the 2024 election looms large, some members of Congress are eager to align themselves with Trump by advocating for his recognition on national assets. Critics argue that these gestures are merely attempts to curry favor with the influential ex-president as he gears up for a potential return to the White House.

Trump’s recent visit to Washington, D.C. marked a significant moment in his post-presidential endeavors. Meeting with Republican leaders to discuss policy and his future plans for the country, Trump reinforced his stance on issues like abortion, crime reduction, and border security, contrasting his administration’s record with what he perceives as missteps by the Biden administration.
