Hunter Biden, the first son of former Vice President Joe Biden, has come up with a new legal and public relations strategy to distance himself from his former friend and business partner, Devon Archer. In a letter to the House Oversight Committee, Biden’s attorney Abbe Lowell referred to Archer as an “inmate” and emphasized that Archer’s conviction was unrelated to Hunter. It turns out that Archer was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison for defrauding a Native American tribe in a bond scheme involving $60 million. Although Archer has appealed his conviction to the Supreme Court, the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York confirmed that he has not reported for prison yet.

While Hunter Biden tries to distance himself from his shady business dealings, it’s important to note that he has likely evaded millions in tax evasion and gun charges thanks to the foot-dragging of special counsel David Weiss. So maybe he and his attorney should think twice before making such claims. In fact, Archer once reached out to Biden via text asking why Joe Biden hadn’t done more to protect him from prosecution, questioning why no one from the Biden family tried to help. Hunter responded by stating that his father had no control over such prosecutions and that the justice system investigates and prosecutes politicians and their families from all administrations.
However, Archer’s closed-door testimony before the House Oversight Committee in July suggests a different story. He confirmed that Joe Biden attended at least two dinners with Hunter’s business associates, including one with an executive from a Ukrainian energy firm called Burisma Holdings. Furthermore, Archer revealed that he and Hunter traveled to Dubai in 2015 to participate in a Burisma board meeting, where they met with Burisma executives who asked Hunter to “call D.C.” to help them deal with pressure from Ukrainian prosecutors. While Hunter did make a call from Dubai to D.C., the details of the conversation remain unknown.
This all ties into the larger narrative of the Biden family’s alleged public corruption. Joe Biden, while serving as the Obama administration’s point man on Ukraine, demanded that the Ukrainian president at the time fire a prosecutor who was investigating Burisma. If the demand wasn’t met, Biden threatened to withhold $1 billion in U.S. loan guarantees. Unsurprisingly, the prosecutor was fired. These revelations make it clear why Hunter Biden’s attorney is trying so hard to discredit Archer. Archer knows too much and his testimony could potentially validate the allegations of public corruption against the Bidens.
