Impeachment Deadline Set for Garland: McCarthy Takes Action Over Hunter Biden Cover-Up

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has set a deadline for an impeachment inquiry against Attorney General Merrick Garland. The inquiry comes after fresh allegations against Garland from IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley. Shapley claimed that Garland and Weiss lied to Congress and the press over their interference in Weiss’s ability to file charges against Hunter Biden.

McCarthy had previously been hesitant to push for impeachment but the new allegations seem to be pushing him towards a more proactive stance. The deadline for the inquiry is July 6th; any investigation will serve as a first step towards a formal impeachment, and without it, Republicans won’t have the support they need in the House to move forward.

Despite the hedging in McCarthy’s statement, we can certainly infer that he must have a plan in place to get all the necessary work done before the deadline. McCarthy cannot prejudge the whistleblower’s testimony without first corroborating the information. Still, any articles of impeachment filed against Garland will need to be fully vetted and airtight. What’s noteworthy is that Shapley has named everyone who was in the room with him and Weiss, including the FBI and IRS agents.

It would be logical to force all these individuals to testify under oath before Congress, and some may be compelled to tell the truth under penalty of perjury, especially since a few of them may not be happy that their investigation was ultimately sunk for political reasons. We believe that if McCarthy has set this deadline, he has a well-laid plan to get all this done before July 6th. Shapley stands to gain nothing, but Garland has everything to lose, especially if his lies are exposed in front of Congress. Let’s see what happens next.
