Effort to Impeach President Biden for Blocking Arms to Israel Hits a Roadblock
An attempt to impeach President Joe Biden over his threats to stop arms going to Israel seems to be slowing down. US Rep. Cory Mills from Florida, a Republican, put forward an article of impeachment against President Biden. He said Biden had tried to make a deal with Israel by holding back weapons to get Israel to make changes in military policy.
Mills wants President Biden to be removed from office for pressuring Israel by linking acts that were crucial to Israel. Despite some initial support from both Republicans and Democrats who criticized Biden’s decision to hold back arms, only five other representatives have joined Mills in backing the impeachment article. Mills wants to talk to House Speaker Mike Johnson to make the article stronger, but Johnson has not shown support for starting an impeachment process.
Some House Republicans believe Biden’s actions don’t meet the strict standard for impeachment. They think Republicans should stay focused on the ongoing investigation into Biden’s family business deals. Mills accused Biden of breaking the Impoundment Control Act by hinting he would keep holding back weapons approved by Congress. This law from 1974 limits a president’s power to stop money that Congress has already approved.
Back in 2019, Democrats accused former President Trump of breaking this law when he told Ukraine’s president he would keep back approved money unless Ukraine looked into Biden’s son. Mills sees similarities between the two impeachments and even used parts of the language from the 2019 impeachment articles against Trump.

Despite Democrats impeaching Trump for a similar accusation, the White House and Democrats say Biden’s actions were different. They argue that Biden was using his power as commander-in-chief in a proper way. This shows how things can be seen differently depending on who is in the spotlight.
Conservative Opinion: It’s frustrating to see Democrats impeaching Trump for similar things they’re now saying Biden did right. This double standard is unfair to Republicans! Biden should be held accountable just like they wanted Trump to be.
