Hold onto your hats, folks, because the Iowa Caucus is coming up, and things are heating up faster than a pancake on a hot griddle! The Republican Party is getting ready to kick off their primary season on January 15, 2024, while the Democrats are still scratching their heads trying to figure out when to hold their caucus. Rumor has it they might settle for sometime in March, but who knows with those guys? It’s like trying to herd a group of indecisive cats!
Now, let’s get to the juicy stuff. You won’t believe it, but former President Donald Trump is taking the lead as the Republican front-runner. RealClearPolitics has him with a whopping +33.5 lead in the primary. That’s a bigger lead than the line at the ice cream truck on a scorching summer day! And if that wasn’t enough, an Iowa poll from American Greatness shows Trump with a +23 lead. The man is on fire!
But even with his impressive numbers, Trump might have stumbled a bit in Iowa recently. At the FAMiLY Leadership Summit, six Republican candidates had a chat with the incomparable Tucker Carlson. But guess who was a no-show? You got it, Trump. Instead, he was busy giving a speech at the Turning Point Action conference in sunny Florida. Some folks weren’t too happy about it, including the Summit’s CEO Bob Vander Plaats, who’s considered a real “kingmaker.” He thought it was a “mistake” for Trump to skip out. Ouch, that has to sting!
But wait, there’s more drama! Trump also got into a bit of a tiff with Governor Kim Reynolds of Iowa. She’s been floated as a potential running mate for Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida, and Trump didn’t like that she wanted to stay “‘NEUTRAL.'” He even went after her publicly, and let’s just say some feathers were ruffled. Iowa State Sen. Jeff Reichman even switched his endorsement from Trump to Reynolds. Looks like Trump’s Iowa fan club might be losing members!
Now, let’s take a step back and ask ourselves, does Iowa really matter that much? In 2016, Trump didn’t even win the state, and yet he went on to win the nomination and the presidency. So, maybe all this hoopla about Iowa is just a bunch of hot air. After all, the polls can change, and who knows if they’re even accurate in the first place? It’s like predicting which flavor of ice cream will be the most popular next summer. You never know until you take that first lick!
And let’s not forget about the Democrats. They’re in disarray, trying to figure out when and where to hold their caucus. They thought about shaking things up by making South Carolina the first in the nation, but the DNC just can’t seem to make up their minds. It’s like watching a group of chickens trying to cross a busy road without getting run over!
And as for President Joe Biden, he might be in for a rude awakening. He’s facing the possibility of losing in Iowa and New Hampshire, those key early states. The guy can’t catch a break! Hillary Clinton barely won Iowa in 2016, and Tom Perez, the former DNC Chairman, was heavily criticized for the delays and inaccuracies in the results. Now, that’s what I call a hot mess!
