Joy Reid, the host, questioned him about the high number of casualties, particularly the estimated 18,000 deaths, with 80 percent of those supposedly being women and children. But Regev didn’t let those numbers slide without scrutiny.
First, he thanked Reid for having him on her show despite her known bias against Israel. He then emphasized that Israel’s goal is not to cause harm to civilians, but rather to eliminate Hamas, which they see as a threat to their security. In Regev’s view, the Israeli people “refuse to live next to a terror enclave,” so taking down Hamas is necessary.

This time, Regev urged her to be cautious about trusting the numbers provided by the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health. He argued that Hamas has a motive to manipulate the figures to serve their propaganda purposes.
He reminded Reid of Hamas’ cruelty and disregard for innocent lives, particularly highlighting their actions on October 7th. Regev suggested that if Hamas would kill innocent civilians, then they certainly would be willing to distort the truth.
Reid countered by mentioning that the United Nations and numerous human rights groups also supported the reported death toll. Regev, however, acknowledged that civilians were unfortunately caught in the crossfire but blamed Hamas for embedding themselves within civilian populations and infrastructure. He argued that this made it difficult for Israel to minimize civilian casualties.
While international organizations seem to align with Reid’s perspective, it’s worth noting that President Biden expressed skepticism about the Palestinian numbers. This calls into question the validity and accuracy of the figures being touted.
