Comedian Jim Gaffigan took center stage at the Al Smith Dinner in New York and unleashed a comedic barrage targeting the Democratic elite, showcasing their considerable hypocrisy. Gaffigan, a devout Catholic, couldn’t resist taking a jab at the party’s narrative that former President Donald Trump poses a dire threat to democracy. He pointed out the irony of the Democrats, who claim to champion democracy while staging a coup against their own party’s sitting president, Joe Biden, to install Kamala Harris as their latest nominee.
During his performance, Gaffigan humorously highlighted the Democrats’ contradictory actions. He noted their frantic warnings about Trump’s potential reelection being a catastrophe for democratic values. In a twist of irony, he remarked that they were so alarmed by this supposed threat that they resorted to undermining their own democratic processes, effectively removing their legitimately elected leader in favor of Harris, who somehow appeared out of nowhere to claim the nomination without even breaking a sweat in the primaries.

Trump himself took the opportunity to entertain the crowd, quipping that if Harris had recognized the dinner’s funds were meant for bailing out riotous looters in Minneapolis, she would have undoubtedly shown up. The jest hit home, drawing laughs while spotlighting Harris’ past support of the Minnesota Freedom Fund, a group notorious for helping release individuals with alarming criminal records from jail.
Attendees, including notable figures like Sen. Chuck Schumer and former NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg, found themselves the unwilling subjects of Gaffigan’s and Trump’s comedic critiques. It seems even in a room filled with elites and political heavyweights, the truth about the party’s questionable methods couldn’t stay quiet.
