House Judiciary Committee Chair, Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union,” defending former President Donald Trump over an indictment. Jordan explained that the President had control over the documents under the standard set by the 1988 case Navy v. Egan. He added that the President’s ability to classify and control access to national security information flows from the Constitution. Jordan dismissed the indictment and believed Trump’s claims about declassifying material.

Jordan listed some of the efforts of Democrats to get Trump from 2016 to 2022, including the dossier used in 2016, the Mueller investigation in 2018, and the 51 former intel officials suppressing the Biden laptop story in 2020. Jordan argued that Jack Smith, the special counsel, was a flawed and biased choice.

"We’ve condemned violence every time … it'd have been nice if the left would've done the same," Rep. @Jim_Jordan tells CNN's Dana Bash.

Jordan pointed out the double standard between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump’s scrutiny. Clinton was not President of the United States and did not have the protection of national security documents’ control. Her team destroyed phones and used BleachBit on the private server, but Democrats turned a blind eye.
Jordan stated that the indictment was an affront to the rule of law as it disregards equal application to everyone. The biased media narrative and unequal law application have resulted in untrust and suspicion by many citizens towards the system.
In conclusion, Jordan made the point that the effort to target Trump began even before his inauguration, starting with the Russia collusion hoax. It continued with the Hunter Biden laptop story, Trump’s impeachment, and the lack of effort to prosecute Biden’s alleged corruption. The indictment against Trump cannot be viewed as fair, given the entire history of going after him.
