Kamala Harris Echoes Trump and Vance With New Child Tax Credit Proposal

Kamala Harris is back in the spotlight with a new plan that seems eerily similar to what Donald Trump and JD Vance have been promoting. Just when it appeared that Harris might actually have a unique idea, she unveiled her support for a child tax credit—a policy that the Trump-Vance ticket has been championing. It raises the question: is she just showing some late-onset populism, or has she run out of original policy ideas?

This isn’t the first time Harris has borrowed from the Trump playbook. Last year, she jumped on the no tax on tips bandwagon, effectively aligning herself with service industry workers who are all too familiar with the struggle of tax bites on their meager earnings. Republican communicator Steve Guest has pointed out Harris’s uncanny mimicry of Trump on this issue, leaving the impression that her political wardrobe is not just a little borrowed, but heavily rented.

The latest Axios report outlined Harris’s economic plan, which proposes a substantial $6,000 child tax credit during a child’s first year—when parents often grapple with mounting expenses. This echoes the prior Biden administration’s expansion of the child tax credit. It seems Harris is rolling back time to 2021, determined to rehash the policies that barely got off the ground the first time. Notably, the proposed expansion of the earned income tax credit for those without kids highlights Harris’s attempt to capture the votes of lower-income families—a demographic that has historically felt neglected by federal programs.

As she gears up to deliver her economic plan, Harris is tiptoeing around the controversial specifics, fearing that they might come back to bite her in the campaign. Previous hints include plans for price controls aimed at curbing what her administration has deemed price gouging in the wake of inflation. One has to wonder if these proposals will lead us straight into a future filled with bread lines and black markets—emulating socialist failures from history.

To add to the absurdity, Harris has avoided unscripted press conferences for a staggering 26 days. It seems the media might as well be on vacation too, as they haven’t interviewed her on television since June. As polls indicate that a significant portion of Democrats and independents are still unaware of Harris’s more radical stances, one can only joke about whether her campaign is aimed at keeping constituents blissfully ignorant of what they are really voting for.
