Kamala Harris is once again taking center stage, this time to introduce a grand scheme to tackle food prices through an ambitious “price-gouging” ban. This move comes as she attempts to paint a rosy picture of the economy, but many might wonder if she’s stepping outside of her kitchen to stir up more political fluff instead of actual solutions. The unveiling of her economic playbook, set for a Friday speech in Raleigh, North Carolina, is greeted with skepticism, if not outright chuckles, from those familiar with her track record.
On the very same day, Harris advertised her plan, former President Donald Trump didn’t hold back in labeling her as “an incompetent socialist.” It’s no secret that the former president, a master of branding, has his sights set on Harris as he rebrands her economic misadventures. With inflation soaring thanks to Biden’s catastrophic policies—sister to Harris’ initiatives—it’s hard to see how a price-control proposal will magically fix anything. The piece of paper she waves around could very well end up as the food shield for the hungry folks at her next campaign stop, assuming it can muster any real impact on the actual economy.

Pollsters indicate that the public is losing confidence in Harris and her boss to handle economic matters. Under the Biden administration, the inflation rate peaked at a dizzying 9% two years ago. However, it has slightly cooled since price tags are still higher than most Americans would like. Voters are itching for change, and guess who shows up in their minds as the economic lifeguard? Yep, ol’ Trump. Not only does he promise to combat inflation, but he also pledges to dump every “job-killing” regulation the Biden-Harris regime has foisted upon the country.
Despite Harris attempting to carve a niche for herself apart from the Biden-Harris legacy, there’s no escaping the reality of that historic ‘Bidenomics’ track record she’s riding on. Meanwhile, old-school economic classic Trump is busy reminding crowds that Harris is merely an extension of the administration’s failing policies. His jab about her being just “10 steps from the Oval Office” hammers home the point that she isn’t some rogue policy-maker on a quirky expedition; she’s deeply enmeshed in Biden’s problematic economics.
In an attempt to distance herself from the mounting economic woes, Harris is set to unveil initiatives aimed at reducing prescription drug and housing costs. Yet, even as she crafts her narrative, it appears she has been methodically copying some of Trump’s ideas, particularly around taxes and the working class. The irony is rich indeed when a Democrat is suddenly echoing a Republican’s tax plan, all while attempting to spin her own party’s soaring prices into something resembling success. Democrats could use a reality check—asking constituents where they really stand could prevent embarrassing moments at the polls come election time.
Harris might show up in Raleigh fully armed with her talking points and a plan that she believes might capture some hearts and minds. But with the economic landscape, as it stands, one has to wonder if her proposals are truly revolutionary or just another warmed-over recipe for disaster, seasoned with all the flair of a failed cafeteria lunch menu.
