Vice President Kamala Harris has officially registered a lackluster performance in swing states, tailing behind President-elect Donald Trump in numbers that would make even the most ardent Democrats cringe. Recent events in Wisconsin illuminate the cringeworthy reality of her campaign tactics and why she may have been swimming upstream from the start.
In a curious act of kindness that inadvertently turned sour, Harris supporters sought to curry favor with union workers by serving them lunch. Sounds innocent enough, right? But in the world of political optics, serving up a subpar meal can unravel faster than a bad campaign ad. Instead of impressing these hardworking union folks, the lunches were deemed “insulting.” Reports surfaced suggesting these culinary delights may have been prepared by prison inmates—because nothing says “we value your support” like a meal that could wind up on the menu in a correctional facility.
This is just incredible: The Kamala Harris campaign tried to win over more than a thousand union workers on one of the biggest construction projects in Wisconsin by getting them a free lunch…a literal brown bag prison lunch. pic.twitter.com/bLEeUuvCYV

The union workers weren’t shy about sharing their grievances over this poorly-conceived gesture. Warm, wholesome food might have had a fighting chance with these voters; however, what they received instead was a single slice of ham slapped between two pieces of stale, store-brand bread, accompanied by a bag of chips and a dinky apple that probably had seen better days. This spread was served alongside a tiresome and uninspired speech, where the main focus was a Trump-bashing tirade rather than proposing any real solutions for the voters.
One worker recounted the peculiar atmosphere surrounding the lunch. As they unwrapped their sad sandwiches, a loudspeaker began spewing a mix of guilt and political diatribe. It felt more like a lecture instructing the workers that their “thanks” for the lunch was their undivided attention to the Harris campaign. Apparently, the script didn’t include highlighting what Harris might actually bring to the table, other than a long recitation of Trump’s supposed sins. Complaints flowed freely about how the blather revolved solely around Trump while real issues affecting union workers went ignored.
Reactions on social media were swift and biting, with many users pointing out the blatant hypocrisy within the Harris campaign’s attempts to reach the blue-collar demographic. Here were these elite celebrities drawing in millions of dollars, and yet her campaign couldn’t muster a decent lunch for the very voters they aimed to woo. One social media user quipped about how Harris had managed to prioritize treating rap stars right while neglecting the blue-collar workers that might actually tip the scales in elections. The results are becoming alarmingly clear: when it comes to connecting with working-class Americans, Harris has missed the mark worse than a high schooler at a spelling bee.
