Hern’s position as the head of the Republican Study Committee (RSC) gives him an advantage, as he has established relationships across the ideological spectrum within the Republican Party. He believes that members are looking for a new type of leadership, one that engages and listens to others’ perspectives, rather than just dictating. Hern’s experience leading employees at his franchises is a selling point, as he knows how to listen to people and bring different viewpoints to the table.

With a potential government shutdown looming on November 17, Hern plans to work with the Rules Committee to quickly address appropriations bills and meet with appropriators to ensure adequate funding for the Department of Defense.
Additionally, Hern’s near-term priorities include providing aid to Israel in its fight against Hamas and ensuring that Congress passes individual appropriations bills, rather than an omnibus package. His long-term goal is to restore trust in Congress by being fiscally responsible and respecting taxpayers’ dollars.
