Karoline Leavitt, the Trump campaign’s national press secretary, hit the nail on the head by calling out CNN’s blatant anti-Trump bias just days before the network is set to host the 2024 presidential debate. In what can only be described as a classic display of censorship, Leavitt was unceremoniously booted off a CNN interview when she dared to discuss the network’s previous skewed coverage of Trump by anchors Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, who are conveniently moderating Thursday’s debate.
Reflecting on this abrupt cutoff, Leavitt was quick to highlight the network’s long-standing tradition of pushing fake news narratives about Trump. According to her, the network’s anchors have been lying about the former president for years. She argued that Trump’s willingness to walk into the lion’s den and appear at this debate demonstrates his commitment to putting his message directly in front of the voters.
Trump Campaign Slams CNN for Cutting Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s Microphone Off Mid-Interview
You can demand respect, but you won’t get any. Respect is earned over time. CNN, has always been the clown show of talking heads. Most of us don’t relate. https://t.co/HoRCP333Ja— Dutchdirkk (@Dutchdirkk) June 25, 2024
Leavitt did not mince words when she went on Fox News’s Hannity to share her perspective. According to her, CNN has been distorting facts about Trump from the beginning. She mentioned that the network played a key role in spreading the Russia hoax, aiding the Biden campaign in burying the Hunter Biden laptop story, and maintaining the Charlottesville hoax even after it was finally debunked. Leavitt warned that CNN’s anti-Trump bias runs deep and cautioned viewers to expect more of the same during Thursday’s debate.
Adding a touch of humor to her critique, Leavitt ridiculed CNN’s claim to be “the most trusted name in news,” making it clear that she believes the network is nothing more than an anti-Trump propaganda machine, not unlike many of the other mainstream institutions in America today.
Of course, CNN attempted to defend themselves by praising Tapper and Bash, calling them veteran journalists with years of political coverage under their belts. Supposedly, these two anchors are the best people for the job of moderating the debate, though their record suggests otherwise.
The upcoming debate will feature Trump facing off against Joe Biden, the presumptive nominees for their respective parties, in what promises to be an early yet dramatic showdown months ahead of the election. In an effort to avoid the chaotic atmosphere of the 2020 debates, CNN plans to enforce new rules, like cutting off candidates’ microphones when it’s not their turn to speak. Of course, the network’s favorite Trump critic, Adam Kinzinger, expressed concern that this measure could stifle Trump’s so-called “psycho-ness.”
Additionally, both candidates are barred from bringing any props or pre-written notes, and the debate will proceed without a public audience. While CNN will host the affair, it will be broadcast across multiple cable and broadcast networks. No one is holding their breath for CNN to abandon its usual antics, but viewers can at least hope for a glimpse of unfiltered truth.
