After several days of speculation, House Speaker John McCarthy confirmed on Tuesday that Rep. George Santos of New York would be placed on various committees. The announcement came after McCarthy had previously stated that he did not intend to place the controversial congressman on a top committee.
Manu Raju, a CNN journalist, shared a clip and a quote from a conversation he had with Rep. Roger Williams, the chairman of the House Committee on Ethics. He said that he did not agree with what the congressman had said.
When talking about the importance of Santos serving his constituents, McCarthy used a similar argument. Although other Republican members of the House have called for the congressman to resign, McCarthy did not call for him to leave office.
New – Roger Williams, who chairs the Small Business Committee, just told us that George Santos will be named to his panel. He said: “I don’t condone what he said, what he’s done. I don’t think anybody does. But that’s not my role. He was elected. He represents a million people.”

During a press briefing last week, McCarthy stated that the voters of New York had elected Santos to represent them. He said that if there were any issues, the congressman would be dealt with through the House Ethics Committee.
In addition to a seat on Financial Services, Rep. George Santos had hoped to get a spot on the House Foreign Affairs Committee — but he won’t get either, per GOP sources

On Tuesday, Raju noted that the majority of Republicans believed that placing Santos on various committees would not only set a standard for other members of Congress who are guilty of wrongdoing.
Concern among Rs is that if they deny George Santos committees now, it’d set a precedent for other members who are facing intense scrutiny from the press but have not been charged with a crime. Several GOP chairs have made clear they don’t want him on their panels, per sources

Some of the prominent individuals who were making headlines for their placements were Paul Gosar and Marjorie Taylor Greene, who had previously been removed from their committee assignments due to the Democrats' control of the House. Both of them were placed on the Oversight Committee.
The Homeland Security Committee was trending on Twitter due to the reactions of liberal users.
