Another day, another opportunistic attempt by the mainstream media to blame former President Trump for something he had nothing to do with. This time, NBC’s Tom Costello has decided that a plane crash in Canada is the perfect occasion for a Trump attack. Who needs an actual understanding of aviation or safety practices when the Trump Derangement Syndrome is in full effect?
On Monday, a Delta Airlines flight with 80 souls on board crash-landed in Toronto, flipping upside down on an icy runway. Fortunately, all passengers were accounted for and only a few injuries were reported. But facts never stop the media from weaving a narrative, and Costello quickly seized the opportunity to connect this unfortunate incident to Trump, along with Elon Musk, as if they were the new villains in a superhero movie.

Costello kicked off his debunked theory by raising concerns about FAA staffing and air traffic control, hinting that both were responsible for the crash. He painted a rather bleak picture, discussing years of complaints about being understaffed. However, he somehow didn’t clarify that the crash was under Canadian jurisdiction, meaning the FAA’s staffing issues were about as relevant as a penguin in the desert.
Desperately trying to paint Trump as the root cause of this disaster, Costello rambled on about “critical job positions” being compromised. What he conveniently left out was that Trump’s hiring freeze included exemptions for safety personnel like air traffic controllers. It’s as if Costello had a checklist of blame-game items, and he was determined to tick off every one, no matter how flimsy the connection.
Now, let’s unpack the larger issue at play here. The FAA’s staffing crisis has been linked to the prioritization of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives under previous administrations. This meddling has pushed qualified candidates out of the running in favor of filling quotas. Whistleblowers have pointed out that these DEI programs were reintroduced under Biden after being scrapped during Trump’s administration, which raises questions about current hiring practices. Yet Costello neglected to mention this glaring fact, choosing instead to lay blame at Trump’s feet for a situation wholly outside of his control.
In the end, the attempt to connect a Canadian aviation incident to Trump is another classic move by the media to divert attention from the real issues while pushing a political agenda. It’s a tragic commentary on just how low the bar has dropped for journalism when the facts no longer matter, as long as there’s a chance to malign Trump. What’s next?
