In the aftermath of a tragic plane-helicopter collision over Washington, D.C., some media figures rushed to make political hay out of the horror. Instead of focusing on the loss of life, which includes more than 60 individuals aboard the passenger plane and the three crew members of the military helicopter, they turned their sights on President Trump within mere moments of the news breaking. The audacity of attempting to blame Trump for such a catastrophe is shocking but, unfortunately, not unexpected from those who inhabit the leftist echo chamber.
That some of these mainstream media elites decided to finger-point at Trump was particularly grotesque. Their vein of reasoning suggested that Trump’s recent plans to trim the federal workforce somehow led to this tragedy. This leap of logic was about as finesse-filled as a bull in a china shop. Naturally, when the absurdity of their claims began to sink in, the retracting of statements commenced with impressive speed.
The timeline unfolded with post after post being deleted, illustrating the all-too-frequent media blunder that turns genuine tragedies into political footnotes. Notable figures like CNN’s Bakari Sellers and Nashville’s Phil Williams were among those who hastily deleted their tweets after glibly tying Trump to the incident, only to later justify their remarks as being borne out of “frustration” or “misinterpretation.” Their attempts at damage control were as sincere as a backhanded apology from a child caught with their hand in the cookie jar.
The real kicker, however, came from those who usually bask in the glow of Northeastern Liberalism. Freelancers like David Freelander, known for impressive accolades that include praising Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, couldn’t help but participate in the initial feasting on the wreckage of moral decency. But their efforts were met with backlash from concerned citizens who came together to call out the malignancy of politicizing a tragedy so gruesomely. Community notes available on social media even stepped in to set the record straight, signaling to the world that baseless accusations will not go unchecked.

Ultimately, the bitter irony is that these are the same media outlets that Americans have learned to view with skepticism. The amount of grievance-fueled blame aimed at Trump is so routine that it has bred a weary cynicism amongst the populace. Rational adults listening to news of the crash would remotely conclude that any administrative maneuver by Trump couldn’t possibly have played a part in such an incident. Yet, the political fabric holds sway over rational thought for the Left, making them desperate to draw connections that simply do not exist.
As the debris settles both literally and metaphorically, the call for accountability does not seem to reach the ears of the Left. They perpetuate this cycle of outrage with reckless abandon. If there’s one thing conservatives have learned, it’s that any and all tragedies are just opportunities for the mainstream media to trot out their age-old critique of Trump. In their minds, no tragedy is too immediate, no sorrow too profound for a chance to take a political jab. The media landscape is littered with their misguided attempts to spin tragedy into political gold, and it appears they’ve sharpened the knives on this occasion as well.
