The Democrats are at it again! Former Michigan state Sen. Curtis Hertel, who is running for Congress in Michigan’s 7th District, is under fire from veterans after he wore an Army-issued uniform jacket at a Veterans Day event, despite never having served in the armed forces.

The veterans, 28 of them to be exact, penned an open letter calling out Hertel for his “stolen valor” and demanded a public apology. And rightfully so! Wearing official military attire when you haven’t earned the right is just plain disrespectful. It leaves a false impression that you actually served in the military.
Hertel tried to make excuses, claiming that the jacket was a Christmas present from his brother-in-law who is an Army major. Oh, please! Nice try, Hertel, but we’re not buying it. Just because it was a gift doesn’t mean you can go around impersonating our brave soldiers. It’s like wearing a doctor’s coat and stethoscope and claiming to be a brain surgeon.
Even one veteran, Jack Devine, tried to defend Hertel, saying that he’s a “relentless advocate for veterans.” Well, let me tell you, it’s not enough to just talk the talk, you have to walk the walk. And Hertel clearly missed the mark on this one.
And get this, Army regulations even say that the physical fitness uniform Hertel wore is “not appropriate for parades, reviews, and ceremonies.”
