California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, has made the outrageous decision to cancel the beloved annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the state capitol due to pro-Palestinian protests. Can you believe it? This leftist governor is bowing down to radical forces, sacrificing a joyful holiday tradition for families out of fear. Pathetic!

Last month, California was the site of a horrifying incident when pro-Palestinian protesters overwhelmed security at the California Democratic Convention. And now, these same troublemakers planned to disrupt the tree lighting ceremony in the same way they did at the Rockefeller Center ceremony in New York City last week. It’s clear that these deranged protesters are on a mission to ruin every festive occasion possible.
Governor Newsom, in a typical display of weak leadership, cited the safety of children and families as the reason for canceling the ceremony, rather than standing up to the radical protesters and ensuring that law-abiding citizens could enjoy the holiday tradition. Instead of holding a brave face, he will cowardly opt for a virtual ceremony and distribute a pre-recorded version. How utterly spineless!
It’s preposterous that the California Highway Patrol, which oversees Capitol security, confirmed the cancellation but did not give a reason. Are they afraid of the pro-Palestinian protesters, too? This just goes to show that the left is caving to these unruly groups by not standing up to protect our traditions and celebrations.
The cancellation led to the Palestinian groups obtaining a permit to hold a 300-person demonstration near the site of the 67-foot-tall holiday tree. It’s disgraceful that these disruptive individuals are now being given the opportunity to spew their anti-Israel rhetoric unchecked, all because Governor Newsom lacked the backbone to stand up to them.
What’s even more troubling is the recent behavior of pro-Palestinian protesters. At the Rockefeller Center tree lighting in New York City, they caused mass chaos, clashed with police, and chanted anti-Israel slogans. Their disruptive and violent behavior is now spreading to holiday traditions across the country, threatening the safety and joy of innocent families.
The New York City Police Department had been on high alert leading up to the tree lighting, fearing a possible clash with pro-Palestinian protesters. It’s clear that these radicals are causing enough trouble to warrant security concerns at multiple major events. This is just more evidence that the left’s soft approach to handling these disruptive forces is putting our cherished holiday traditions in jeopardy.
It’s time for leaders like Governor Newsom to put their foot down and ensure that law and order prevail, rather than caving to the whims of radical protesters. Our holiday celebrations should not be held hostage by these disruptive individuals, and it’s time for strong leadership to safeguard the joy and safety of our communities. Governor Newsom should be ashamed of himself for allowing these disruptions to take place, and he needs to step up and protect our holiday traditions before it’s too late.
