Newt Gingrich Female Speaker could be GOP Unifying Force

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich recently made an appearance on Fox News Sunday, where he proposed that Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) could be a formidable candidate to become the next Speaker of the House. Gingrich expressed his desire for a female candidate to emerge from the current pool of contenders and highlighted Stefanik, along with Rep. Beth Van Duyne, as potential options.

The Republican Party has encountered difficulties in selecting a new leader for the House, as there is currently no designated nominee for Speaker. Following two unsuccessful attempts, Reps. Steve Scalise (R-LA) and Jim Jordan (R-OH) were unable to garner the necessary support. House Republicans are eager to address this issue, and several members, including Reps. Kevin Hern (R-OK), Austin Scott (R-GA), Byron Donalds (R-FL), Pete Sessions (R-TX), Mike Johnson (R-LA), Jack Bergman (R-MI), and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN), have expressed their interest in assuming the role of Speaker.

Gingrich, who held the position of Speaker for four years, expressed concerns about a potential vocal minority within the GOP causing further division within the party. He suggested that a female Speaker might be more effective in fostering unity among party members and stressed the importance of the party staying cohesive.

With the House currently unable to conduct any legislative business, including addressing the impending government shutdown deadline, the urgency to select a new Speaker is becoming more pressing. The Republican Party is eager to find a leader who can unite its members and lead them through the challenges ahead.
