Burgum, who has been rumored as a potential running mate for Trump in 2024, explained that his perspective on the former president has transformed as he has spent personal time with him since backing him in January. He emphasized Trump’s success in various fields, including TV, real estate, and politics, and expressed his admiration for Trump’s skills, characterizing him as a valuable asset to the nation.

The governor also commended Trump’s approach to using power, particularly in negotiating balanced trades with other countries, arguing that it has benefited the United States. In addressing the current state of the border, Burgum criticized the Biden administration, likening their alleged neglect of the border patrol to the purported abandonment of the police by Democratic governors. He raised concerns about national security, suggesting that the Biden administration’s policies have elevated the risk of a major terrorist attack.
Additionally, Burgum, along with other potential candidates, received vetting materials from the Trump campaign regarding the possibility of serving as Trump’s running mate. As Trump continues to be a prominent figure in the Republican Party and is reportedly considering another presidential run, the 2024 election is anticipated to be a contest between Trump and President Joe Biden.
