It’s raining free money in the Big Apple, and not everyone is happy about it! New York City Mayor Eric Adams is rolling out the red carpet for migrants by giving them fancy-schmancy debit cards loaded with cash, and some city council members are seeing red.
Vickie Paladino, a go-getting Republican representing Northeast Queens, is putting her foot down on this free money madness. She claims that these debit cards are like a siren call for more migrants to come flocking to the city. According to her, the migrants themselves are spilling the beans, saying they’re high-tailing it to NYC because they know they’ll hit the jackpot with welfare. And it’s not just any old welfare – it’s untraceable, no-strings-attached cash.

The program, which coughs up to $1,000 a month for about 500 migrant families, is making quite the ruckus. The Adams administration is all like, “It’s a cost savings measure, folks!” They’re saying it’ll replace the city’s ho-hum system of doling out non-perishable food boxes to migrant families staying in the city-funded digs. But hold onto your hat – the price tag for this cash bonanza is a cool $600,000 a month. Cha-ching!
But wait, there’s more! A four-person family with rugrats under five years old could rake in a sweet $350 per week with these debit cards. That’s enough moolah to make anyone’s head spin – about $18,200 a year, give or take.
Now, if you’re a hardworking New Yorker just trying to make ends meet, you might be feeling a little miffed. Council member Joseph Borelli is right there with you, pal. He’s hollering that it’s just not fair for the city’s salt-of-the-earth working class to get the short end of the stick while migrants hit the jackpot. According to him, it’s like watching migrants hit the jackpot and then getting slapped with a $15 toll just to get into Manhattan. Ouch!
And that’s not all, folks. Paladino’s got an earful from her constituents who are none too pleased about the migrant invasion. They’re worried sick about crime creeping up the charts thanks to all these newcomers. She’s saying it’s starting to feel like the Wild West out there.
