In response to this catastrophe, acting Gov. Sylvia Luke declared a state of emergency on Tuesday. She pointed out that even though the eye of the storm was south of the island, the winds were still wreaking havoc on the area. Turns out, Mother Nature doesn’t follow orders from politicians! Luke prioritized the safety of the residents and activated the Hawaii National Guard to assist emergency responders in the impacted communities. It looks like the state needs all hands on deck to battle this fiery nightmare.
