The survey results, released in McKinsey & Co.’s Mobility Consumer Pulse for 2024, have left even the pollsters surprised by the high number of EV owners considering a switch back to internal combustion engines. The dissatisfaction among these drivers is primarily fueled by concerns over charging infrastructure, high costs, and limitations on long-distance travel imposed by EVs.

Despite Biden’s promises of $7.5 billion investment in new EV chargers, the reality on the ground tells a different story. The delays in setting up the promised 500,000 EV chargers have only added to the frustration of American drivers who feel let down by the current state of EV infrastructure.
