Progressive Magazine Suggests Trump Follow Hitler on Research Policy

In what can only be described as an alarming descent into absurdity, a progressive publication recently suggested that former President Trump could benefit from taking a page out of Adolf Hitler’s playbook. Yes, this is not a fictional story hitched from some bizarro universe, but a headline that graced “The American Prospect” this week. One can only wonder what planet these folks are living on, as it appears to be a world where hyperbolic comparisons aren’t just common; they’re comically expected.

In the glorious year of 2025, where sanity seems like a quaint relic, the left has somehow managed to hand a free pass to President Trump after years of brandishing him as the ultimate embodiment of evil. It’s a little too rich to see these same critics claiming that Trump needs to follow the dictatorial example of a genocidal madman regarding federal funding for research. Talk about putting the ‘absurd’ in ‘absurdity.’

The call to action for Trump to mimic the Führer centers around claims that he is attempting to “destroy” esteemed American research institutions by capping overhead on federal grants. Apparently, like any good progressive, the author views taxpayer-funded university research as sacrosanct, immune from the critical eye of fiscal responsibility. It seems that in this brave new world, a 15% overhead is considered a catastrophe when universities like Harvard and Yale have been known to pad their pockets with overheads exceeding a staggering 60%. Those numbers apparently return no eyebrows, but suggesting to cut back on waste? Now that’s a crime against humanity.

This feigned concern from the progressive side illustrates a propensity to draw dramatic conclusions without any semblance of evidence or reason. A practical stance would be to investigate how these overhead costs ballooned to begin with, but intricate analyses of fiscal waste tend to be glossed over in leftist circles. No, that would be too much like actual accountability, and we wouldn’t want the party of perpetual spending to face the music now, would we?

What’s truly startling is the blatant shift from projecting hysteria about a dictatorial Trump to endorsing a method that echoes totalitarian sensibilities. By juxtaposing Trump with Hitler in such a ridiculous manner, the left not only discredits their own past warnings but also reveals the desperation of a movement grappling with reality. It’s almost as if they’ve left the rational world behind and decided to take the express train to Lunacy Station, fully embracing their inner chaos.

While leftist media babbles incessantly about existential threats and troubling government inefficiencies while patting themselves on the back for their faux-profundity, they simultaneously reveal their own hypocrisy. Rather than facing the music and trimming wasteful spending, they resort to feverish claims and absurd comparisons. The irony here is delicious; it’s as if they’re waving a flag that reads, “We were wrong all along,” while simultaneously insisting everything is just fine. As it stands, the primary disservice to leftist angst is their tendency to disenfranchise themselves by doubling down on contradictions. Keep it up, lefties. It makes the rest of America look a whole lot better in comparison.
