The age debate surrounding President Joe Biden has been a hot topic in the 2024 race for the White House. Republicans have been quick to claim that Biden is “too old,” while his administration has been making excuses for his erratic behavior. However, a well-known psychiatrist, Dr. Carole Lieberman, has presented a different perspective. She argues that age should not be the main concern, pointing out that there are many older individuals who are highly intelligent and mentally sharp. Instead, Lieberman suggests that the focus should be on whether Biden would pass a cognitive health evaluation.
In Lieberman’s view, the issue is not Biden’s age but rather his competency. She believes that if Biden were to take a test of competency, he would undoubtedly fail. Lieberman mentions an 11-question exam that assesses cognitive function in several areas. She claims that Biden would struggle to answer even the simplest question, such as “Who is the president of the United States?” While age may just be a number, Lieberman contends that Biden’s ability to effectively lead the country is the real concern.

A Yahoo/YouGov poll found that 67 percent of Americans, including nearly half of Democrats, feel that Biden is too old for another term in office. In contrast, only 35 percent believe that Vice President Kamala Harris would be ready to assume the presidency if necessary. These numbers suggest that there is doubt among the American people about Biden’s fitness for the job.
In addition, a CNN poll revealed that the majority of Americans, eight out of ten, support appointing a special counsel to investigate the classified documents found at Biden’s Delaware home and his D.C. office. Only 18 percent of respondents believe that Biden is blameless in this situation, while 81 percent believe he has engaged in some form of unethical behavior. These findings further fuel concerns about Biden’s trustworthiness and potential wrongdoings.

He also relied on note cards throughout a speech, raising questions about his ability to speak coherently without assistance. Additionally, Biden made a false claim, stating that he had been to “every mass shooting” while advocating for stricter gun control measures. These incidents only reinforce the doubts that many have about his capacity to effectively govern.
