RFK Jr. Challenges Biden to Drop Out in Anti-Trump Pact to Avoid Spoiler Effect

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has put forward an unusual proposal to President Joe Biden in an effort to defeat former President Donald Trump in the 2024 race. Despite trailing Biden by more than 30 points in the latest polls, RFK Jr. has suggested a “no-spoiler” agreement, urging that whichever of the two candidates — either himself or Biden — is less likely to beat Trump in the November election should drop out in October.

Kennedy emphasized that the purpose of his pledge is to allow people to vote out of hope rather than fear. His campaign pointed to a recent poll of over 26,000 people, which indicated that Kennedy would win 367 electoral votes to Biden’s 171 in a two-way race against Biden and Trump. However, Trump dismissed support for Kennedy as a “wasted vote,” while the Democratic National Committee described his proposal for Biden to step aside as “deeply unserious.”

RFK Jr. suggested that he and Biden jointly fund a 50-state poll of at least 30,000 likely voters to determine which candidate is the true “spoiler” in potentially defeating Trump. He stressed that the candidate who performs the weakest against the Republican candidate should abandon their presidential ambitions. Despite criticism from Trump and the Democratic National Committee, Kennedy maintained his position, asserting that a two-way race between himself and President Trump or President Biden is essential for Americans to vote out of hope rather than fear.
