In a shocking turn of events, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) found themselves diving for cover as rockets rained down on Tel Aviv during their congressional delegation to Israel. The two senators, along with Senators Bill Cassidy (R-La.), Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.), and Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), were meeting with government leaders and families affected by the violence when sirens blared, forcing them to seek shelter.
This incident highlighted the brutal reality that Israelis face every day, and it was a rude awakening for the politicians who claim to support Israel but rarely experience the true dangers that its citizens face. Yet, Schumer conveniently failed to mention the inflammatory statements made by Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MI), two notorious anti-Israel congresswomen. Additionally, he conveniently overlooked the fact that the Biden administration recently released $6 billion in frozen funds to Iran, which could have indirectly financed the Hamas attacks.

Notably, Schumer, being the highest-ranking Jewish official in U.S. history, should be at the forefront of condemning anti-Semitic rhetoric and advocating for Israel’s safety. However, his silence speaks volumes.
This terrifying incident also serves as a reminder that this isn’t the first time U.S. officials have had to seek refuge during this conflict. Just last week, Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) and his family were forced to shelter during their trip to Israel, and Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) had to take cover in a bomb shelter while visiting Jerusalem. These occurrences underscore the severity of the situation and the need for a strong and unwavering U.S. presence in the region.
As the violence intensifies and the death toll rises, it is crucial for America to stand firmly by Israel’s side. Their security and well-being should be our top priority, regardless of political affiliation.
