Senator Rick Scott is fuming over the shocking exclusion of Florida State University from the College Football Playoff. The Florida Republican is demanding answers from the committee responsible for this outrageous decision, insisting on total transparency.
Scott is irate that the committee chose to snub the undefeated Seminoles, a powerhouse team from a “Power Five” conference, in favor of letting two teams with just one loss, the University of Texas and the University of Alabama, into the playoff. He argues that this decision will not only bring heartache to the Tallahassee school but will also lead to significant financial losses.

In a letter to Selection Committee Chairman Boo Corrigan, Senator Scott demanded access to all notes and written communications concerning the committee’s decision-making and ranking procedures. He highlighted the committee’s apparent consideration of a season-ending injury to FSU quarterback Jordan Travis, despite the injury not impacting the previous week’s rankings and FSU’s victory over a highly ranked Louisville team without Travis.
Senator Scott voiced his concerns about the perceived unfairness of the system, emphasizing that the committee seemed to disregard the known strengths of an undefeated team in favor of speculating on the impact of losing a single player.
While football experts acknowledge the difficulties the committee faced in selecting the top four teams, Florida politicians are in an uproar over the exclusion of FSU. Former President Donald Trump even took to social media to blame one of his Republican primary rivals, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, for the decision, referring to it as a “really bad lobbying effort.”
On the Democratic side, Representative Jared Moskowitz is drafting a resolution condemning the NCAA, labeling the decision as corrupt and driven by TV money. Meanwhile, Republican Representative Byron Donalds didn’t mince words, calling the CFP committee “trash” in a scathing post.
The battle over FSU’s exclusion from the College Football Playoff continues to escalate, with tensions running high among Florida’s political figures.
