Residents in Lahaina, Hawaii, are expressing their frustration and disbelief at President Joe Biden’s insensitive behavior during his visit to the area following the devastating fires. It was reported by RedState that Biden took a short break from his second vacation in a month to fly to Hawaii. While there, he met with politicians and first responders and gave two brief speeches. Unfortunately, both speeches had their lowlights, with perhaps the most egregious being when Biden made a tasteless joke about a kitchen fire and his “Covervette” and cat. This attempt at humor was completely out of touch with the distraught community, many of whom had lost loved ones and their homes to the fires.

One resident of Lahaina expressed her disappointment and confusion at Biden’s remarks, stating that there was no “better” or “new” when it came to replacing what had been lost in the fires. She rightly pointed out that the losses experienced by the community could not be replaced, especially for the elderly (referred to as Kupuna) and families who had lost everything they had. It’s clear that Biden’s attempt at comedy fell flat and only added insult to injury for those who were already suffering.

The video of this resident’s emotional response shows that she is speaking from the heart, genuinely perplexed as to how a visit to a devastated area could be treated as an infrastructure project. The death toll from the fires is staggering, with hundreds confirmed dead and potentially over a thousand still missing. This is not a situation where one can promise something “better.” Biden’s behavior throughout the visit was absurd, and it’s hard to fathom how anyone could fail to recognize the gravity of the situation. As the leader of the nation, he should have shown compassion and respect, not a callous disregard for the emotions of those affected.
It is becoming increasingly apparent that something is amiss with Joe Biden. Whether it’s his old age or a lack of empathy, his actions are cause for concern. Equally troubling is the apparent lack of concern from his handlers, who allow him to continue making these insensitive remarks without consequence. The president of the United States should be held to a higher standard, especially when visiting communities that have experienced such significant loss and devastation.
