Swing State Voters Trust Trump Over Biden with Democracy Threats

In what may come as a surprise only to MSNBC viewers and the “fact-checkers” at Facebook, a new poll indicates that voters in crucial swing states have more faith in the Donald Protecting America’s democracy than they do in the Sleepy Joe Show. The Washington Post/Schar School survey released on Wednesday shows 38% of voters across six key swing states prefer Trump to handle threats to democracy, compared to a rather pathetic 29% who trust Biden. Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin aren’t buying into the mainstream media’s doom-and-gloom narrative about Trump anymore.

An earlier PBS poll reported that 29% of voters consider preserving democracy as their top priority, which trails just behind the roughly 30% who are more worried about inflation — you know, the thing that’s making anyone who isn’t a tech billionaire feel like they’re one big car repair away from living in a van down by the river. And while a majority of voters on both sides agree democracy might be in danger, they definitely don’t agree on what exactly that threat looks like. But don’t expect those “unbiased” polls to get into specifics, like who might be causing the trouble or how these threats are showing up across the country.

Digging a bit deeper, it’s obvious many Trump voters think the 2020 election was hijacked by Democrats who then accused Trump left and right, trying to smear him to cover their tracks. Democrats, on the other hand, delight in regurgitating the January 6 protest and Trump’s claims of a “stolen election” as existential threats to democracy. Each party is like an overzealous parent at a Little League game, trying to convince everyone their kid’s the MVP.

Trump, never one to shy away from the spotlight, has been banging the democracy drum at his rallies. He warned Ohio voters back in the spring that if Republicans fail to clinch the election, democracy is pretty much over. According to Trump, winning big is the only way to make sure those devious Democrats can’t rig another election. And let’s not forget that jaw-dropping Rasmussen poll, which found that a whopping 62% of voters think cheating probably tipped the scales in Biden’s favor in 2020. Over a third of adults have flat-out labeled Biden’s win as illegitimate.

Meanwhile, the Biden camp is busy working itself into a tizzy about what a Trump win could mean. Biden’s January campaign speech could’ve come from a sci-fi horror movie, warning Americans that “democracy is on the ballot.” Democrats are painting Trump as a one-man apocalypse, hell-bent on annihilating America’s democratic values. Who needs the Terminator when you’ve got Trump, right?

Top Democrats, like everyone’s favorite twice-unelected Hillary Clinton, are doing their part to stir the pot, telling voters to connect the dots from Trump’s refusal to accept election results to the so-called “insurrection” on January 6, 2021. It’s almost as if they’re hoping everyone has collective amnesia about all the good Trump did while in office. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer took to the Senate floor last month to parrot the party line, accusing Trump of poisoning democracy with his claims of a rigged election.

In the end, the battle for democracy has become the ultimate political football, with each side convinced the other is trying to drag America into an autocratic abyss. Republicans want a landslide win to fend off any potential election rigging, while Democrats keep pushing their narrative that Trump is the ultimate boogeyman. One thing’s for sure, this democracy showdown is far from over, and 2024 is gearing up to be one heck of a cage match. Get your popcorn, folks—it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
