The Democrats are starting to eat their own. Texas Representative Lloyd Doggett has decided to jump ship and become the first Democrat in Congress to tell President Biden to hit the road after Biden’s embarrassing debate performance. Maybe Doggett finally realized that propping up a president who can barely string a sentence together might not be the best strategy for 2024.
Doggett did try to soften the blow by praising Biden for his years of public service, but it was clear he thinks it’s time for Sleepy Joe to retire. According to Doggett, Biden flubbed his chance to defend his record and failed to call out Trump effectively during the debate. Poor Joe just couldn’t keep up. But hey, what do we expect from someone who thinks “trunalimunumaprzure” is a word?

Doggett wants Biden to step aside and let a new generation take charge, one that can supposedly unite the country. It’s almost cute that Doggett thinks the Democrats have anyone waiting in the wings who can pull that off. And while Doggett claims his decision doesn’t diminish his respect for Biden, it’s hard to see how calling for the president’s resignation can be viewed any other way.
Since Biden’s debate disaster, his campaign has been in full-on damage control mode. Voters were left unimpressed with his answers on age, illegal immigration, and inflation. Trump, on the other hand, delivered a robust performance, leaving Biden in the dust. Until now, Democrats mostly kept up appearances of support, but Doggett’s statement has cracked that facade wide open.
Doggett argues that the priority should be saving democracy from what he calls an “authoritarian takeover” by Trump. Sounds like a bit of projection from a party that’s been all about lockdowns and mandates, doesn’t it? The real question now is, will Biden heed Doggett’s call and step aside, or will the Democrats continue to drag their beleaguered leader through another election cycle? Tibia continued…
