RealClearPolitics founder Tom Bevan recently hit the nail on the head while pointing out the comedic charade being orchestrated by the Democrats and the media around Vice President Kamala Harris. Despite whatever facelift the Democrats have attempted, she remains the same overly ambitious, left-wing politician that many in her party have labeled a “lost hope.” This is no small feat, as Democrats appear to be marketing her as a fresh face of change, a brilliant policy moderate, and a political superstar. In reality, she’s none of those things—and that facade might just be unraveling before their very eyes.
The latest echo from the Democrats shows that they’re just as nervous about her viability as she is. The New York Times recently reported a state of “quiet panic” among key Democratic figures regarding a possible Biden retirement. Harris, meanwhile, has been retreating into her metaphorical bunker following her cringe-worthy interview with Lester Holt. It seems she’s chosen to hide rather than face the reality of her struggles within the administration. The whispers of dysfunction in Harris’s office have echoed louder than a chorus, with insiders describing the environment as chaotic and hostile. It seems the only things thriving there are her staff turnover rates—they’re flying out the door faster than they can find replacements, amply demonstrating that misery certainly does love company.

The Democrat establishment seems to be putting all its eggs into the Kamala basket despite her lackluster track record. Harris is being presented as the “change” candidate, but how can a sitting vice president sell that line? It’s baffling that after almost four years in office, she’s somehow touted as a new dawn when the vast majority of Americans appear to see her as “more of the same.” Polls indicate that Biden is not only on thin ice but that many voters prefer to switch directions entirely, with Harris the embodiment of everything they’re trying to escape. Her recent “issues” page on her campaign website is an uninspired recycling of Biden’s platform—a clear indication that she has no original ideas worth presenting.
In an act of dramatic irony, Harris’s recently added campaign website page seems to have lifted more than just a few ideas from Biden’s playbook, indicating she may also be the first vice president to commit plagiarism by simply copying her boss. The very idea that she would have anything to say different from the president, who has effectively been her partner in governorship, is laughable. A spokesperson floundering when asked what she will bring to the table is hardly confidence-inspiring. Her “pragmatic approach” sounds suspiciously like a code for avoiding real answers.
The left’s attempt to transform Harris from the most far-left senator to a so-called moderate—without any actual shift in her policy positions—has been nothing short of absurd. She’s built a career on these extreme stances, from taxpayer-funded gender surgeries for detained migrants to decriminalizing drug possession. Yet her camp’s evasiveness on these stances in light of the electoral cycle makes one wonder—has she forgotten what she truly stands for, or is she just trying to hide it? The irony is thick as Bernie Sanders suggests she’s committed to her progressive roots but is willing to contort them to win an election. Given her track record, those among us in the sane hemisphere might easily agree.
In the end, the attempt to market Harris as the darling of a new Democratic soul is likely to backfire spectacularly. The theater of deception may have worked for a while, but it’s clear the script is getting old, and the audience isn’t buying it anymore. Just as the original play must have an ending, so too will the overhyped rebranding of Kamala Harris—either in a spectacular flop or an eye-rolling sequel. Either way, it doesn’t seem America is ready for another round of the same tired routine.
