In a recent interview on Newsmax, former President Donald Trump praised RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and claimed that he played a pivotal role in her appointment. When asked about the RNC’s relationship with Fox News and the possibility of sabotage, Trump defended the RNC and spoke highly of McDaniel, stating that she is a “very good person.”
It’s unclear why the Newsmax host suggested that the RNC was out to get Trump, considering the party’s history of supporting him. Trump correctly noted that he was responsible for elevating McDaniel to her position in 2017 and that he played a role in her recent re-election. Despite the controversies surrounding McDaniel, such as inviting Trump surrogates to the first GOP debate spin room without the former president present, Trump’s support for her remains unwavering.

However, Trump’s praise of McDaniel may not sit well with many Republicans who have grown increasingly opposed to her leadership. The GOP has suffered defeat in multiple major elections under McDaniel’s guidance, leading some to question her effectiveness. The RNC has also been criticized for sending out scam-like emails rather than achieving conservative victories.
Ultimately, Trump and McDaniel’s ongoing support for each other means they will be held accountable for the party’s performance in the upcoming 2024 elections. Being in positions of power within the Republican Party means they are now part of the establishment and must deliver results or face consequences.
