Former President Donald Trump, the Republican frontrunner for president in 2024, doesn’t think the choice of a vice presidential nominee will have much impact on the election outcome. In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, Trump pointed out that throughout history, vice presidents have never played a significant role in winning elections. He believes that the public is primarily focused on voting for the president, not the vice president.

Trump didn’t reveal any specific names he’s considering for his potential running mate, but he emphasized that there are plenty of talented individuals in the Republican party. He acknowledged that some people have suggested certain pairings, but ultimately, he will rely on his instincts to make the best decision. Trump is determined to prioritize winning because he believes that if Republicans don’t come out on top, the future of the country is at stake.
While some in the donor-class establishment are pushing for Trump to choose former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley as his VP, Trump doesn’t appear convinced by the argument that she would attract women and moderate voters. He remains firm in his belief that the vice presidential pick won’t make a difference in the general election outcome.
Other potential contenders for the role include South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, Sen. J.D. Vance, Rep. Elise Stefanik, Rep. Byron Donalds, Sen. Marsha Blackburn, and Sen. Tim Scott, among many others. However, Trump’s recent attacks on Haley, whom he calls “Birdbrain,” cast doubt on her chances of being selected.
As the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary approach, Trump’s strong position in the polls suggests that he may secure the nomination soon. If that happens, the conversation about his running mate will likely take center stage. However, if the nomination battle prolongs, the discussion could become more extensive and drawn out.
It’s refreshing to hear Trump acknowledge that the choice of a vice presidential nominee typically won’t sway the election outcome. This perspective aligns with the view that voters are primarily focused on the presidential candidate and their policies.
