For a whopping 46 minutes, the former president unleashed a verbal onslaught, particularly targeting Vice President Kamala Harris, all while touching on familiar campaign themes. It’s a classic Trump move—draw the spotlight to the other side while keeping folks chuckling at his antics.
This marks Trump’s second press conference in just over a week, and one can only imagine the Interns at Harris’s campaign cringing at what they can’t avoid: an appearance in one of Trump’s long-winded monologues. While other political figures might engage in polite debates, Trump is busy hawking cocktails of complaints mixed with comedic jabs. He seems particularly intent on goading Harris into an actual press interview, which she has, up to now, artfully dodged, suggesting she may not be as sharp as her fans would hope.

From a table adorned with snacks fit for a golf club get-together, Trump referred to Harris as a “radical-left person” who seems eager to impose price controls across the country—a classic conservative talking point that strikes a nerve with many voters who prefer free-market solutions over government interference.
Adding a dash of humor to his rant, Trump even found a moment to praise CNN’s Dana Bash and Jake Tapper. The commendation came with a wink and a nod towards their debate moderation. It’s almost comical to think that praising CNN could be twisted into a valiant act rather than merely a self-serving plug amidst a barrage of attacks against Biden, who has gracefully exited the race for the Democrats.
Meanwhile, the Harris campaign seems to be operating under the assumption that poking fun at Trump and his campaign is the best way forward, dismissing his press conference antics as “rambling incoherently and spreading dangerous lies.” If mocking Trump were an Olympic sport, they would undoubtedly take home the gold—yet it makes one wonder if Harris is just trying to keep a safe distance from engaging in the battlefield of ideas, which could be perilous for her politically speaking.
In the midst of his excited tirades, Trump also made some pointed remarks about voting strategies. He labeled early voting “ridiculous,” creating a delightful irony since he himself cast an early ballot. Trump continues to rally the base around the need for more robust voter integrity measures, including voter ID laws—a hot-button issue that many conservatives hold dear. It remains to be seen how much traction these calls to action will gain as the election approaches.
One would hope Harris takes a cue from the spirited exchanges at these press conferences and steps into the ring for a proper debate. After all, who wouldn’t want to watch the ratings-boom drama of Trump versus Harris? The left might do well to stock up on popcorn, because by the looks of it, the showdown of wit, charisma, and political agendas could be more entertaining than any primetime show currently airing.
