Incoming Trump border czar Tom Homan is preparing to play hardball with state and local governments that think they can defy the federal immigration policy under President Trump. During a recent appearance on “Life, Liberty & Levin” on Fox News Channel, Homan made it clear that non-complying states could face significant financial repercussions if they continue to obstruct federal immigration enforcement. Who knew enforcing the law could actually come with consequences?
Homan explained that if any governor or mayor opts to throw a tantrum and refuses to support federal law, they can expect a swift reduction in federal funds. Mark Levin, the host of the show, emphasized that this tactic is one the left often resorts to whenever it’s politically convenient for them, pulling strings at the budget to make Republicans squirm. Levin quipped about states proclaiming their status as sanctuary cities but added the reminder that they are still part of the United States. That means when it comes to federal law, these officials better tow the line or watch their state budgets take a nosedive.

It’s amusing to think how passionately these Democrat-run cities tout their defiance only to quail in fear when federal funding threatens to evaporate. Homan isn’t mincing words when he mentions that a governor ignoring federal responsibilities is the real villain in this scenario. CNN may want to portray those in power as “victims,” but the reality is that public safety and national security take precedence over the latest unhinged escapade by leftist mayors.
Homan also reflected on the personal backlash he has faced, including threats to his safety due to his commitment to enforcing the law. If that isn’t one of the most backward situations, what is? Law enforcement officials become targets while those breaking the laws are coddled and painted as the “real victims.” The absurdity of it all seems to know no bounds. Furthermore, the notion that local officials should prioritize the safety of their constituents over their disdain for Trump is a message many should be able to agree on, regardless of their political leanings.
Rather than focusing on how to best serve their communities, it seems some officials would rather engage in a game of political football. Homan’s promise to prioritize public safety threats and national security must have left those obstructing the law with sweat beads forming. Nobody wants the bad guys in their neighborhoods, and it’s time that mayors and governors start putting their communities ahead of their Trump hatred. The message is loud and clear, and it’s about time those running self-proclaimed sanctuary cities get with the program.
