Special Counsel Jack Smith’s attempt to silence former President Donald Trump with a gag order is just another example of the left’s desperate attempts to suppress free speech and stifle conservative voices. Smith’s motion, which seeks to prohibit Trump from making any “prejudicial extrajudicial statements,” is a blatant violation of Trump’s First Amendment rights and a clear example of unconstitutional overreach.
The motion claims that Trump’s criticisms of the criminal charges, the court, the judge, the jury pool, witnesses, and prosecutors amount to threats and intimidation. But where is the evidence of these alleged threatening or intimidating statements? This gag order is nothing more than an attempt to silence Trump and prevent him from defending himself and his reputation in the political arena. Meanwhile, President Biden and his cronies are given free rein to say whatever they want.
Trump’s attorneys have fired back, calling Smith’s motion “transparent gamesmanship” and arguing that it lacks any real evidence of actual threats or intimidation. They rightly point out that Trump has the right to freely criticize the government and its institutions, even provocatively, as protected by the First Amendment. They also highlight the lack of narrow tailoring in the proposed gag order, which would prevent Trump from defending himself while allowing Biden and his surrogates to continue their attacks.

This proposed gag order is not only unconstitutional, but it is also a desperate attempt by the Biden administration to silence its most prominent political opponent. It is no coincidence that this motion comes on the heels of adverse polling for Biden. The administration is trying to prevent Trump from presenting his side of the story to the American people during a political campaign. This is a desperate effort at censorship that should be rejected without hesitation.
It remains to be seen how Judge Chutkan will rule on this proposed gag order, but her track record of ruling against Trump’s attorneys and displaying bias should be cause for concern. It is clear that the left will stop at nothing to silence conservatives and preserve their hold on power. But we must continue to fight for our constitutional rights and refuse to be silenced. The American people deserve to hear all sides of the story, not just the narrative pushed by the liberal media and the Biden administration.
