According to an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, former President Donald Trump believes that current President Joe Biden would “probably” pardon his son Hunter Biden if he is convicted of crimes. Despite the White House’s insistence that Joe Biden would not pardon his son, Trump raises concerns that if Hunter Biden were to be convicted, Joe Biden could potentially decide to pardon him as a lame duck outgoing president or a term-limited president. Breitbart News has consistently predicted that a pardon for Hunter Biden is the most likely outcome of this situation.
In the same interview, Trump also discussed the power of pardons and revealed that his lawyers had suggested he pardon himself before leaving the White House. While no president has ever done so, Trump maintains that the power of the pardon is absolute and would likely have held up under scrutiny. However, he decided against it because he believed himself to be innocent and did not want to be the first president to pardon himself, citing concerns about how it would be perceived by the public and future generations. Trump believes that the option of self-pardon was a strong one and was presented to him by numerous lawyers who argued that it would save him from spending extensive time in court against people with “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
