Turley Criticizes Supreme Court for Upholding Gun Restrictions for Biden

Legal analyst Jonathan Turley criticized the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to uphold restrictions to the Second Amendment, particularly in the case of Hunter Biden. The court ruled 8-1 to maintain a federal law preventing individuals convicted of domestic violence from owning firearms, which ultimately dashed Hunter Biden’s hopes of overturning his conviction for illegal firearm purchases.

Turley lamented the court’s ruling, calling it a “huge loss” for President Biden’s son. Chief Justice Roberts defended the decision by stating that prohibiting individuals who pose a credible threat to physical safety from possessing firearms aligns with the nation’s historical approach to gun laws.

Hunter Biden’s legal troubles stem from his alleged purchase of a Colt Cobra revolver in 2018 while reportedly addicted to drugs, along with making false statements on his purchase form. Despite initially planning to plead guilty to misdemeanor tax charges and a felony gun charge, Biden’s agreement crumbled during a court hearing due to concerns over an immunity provision.

In his defense, Hunter Biden admitted to drug addiction during the gun purchase in his memoir and in text messages discussing his drug usage. The defense claimed Biden was unaware of his addiction at the time, with his daughter testifying to his improved state following the death of his brother Beau.
