In a recent turn of events, Special Counsel Jack Smith has indicted former President Donald Trump with a four-count indictment. However, legal experts Jonathan Turley and Andrew McCarthy wasted no time in tearing apart this flawed spectacle and exposing its attempt to twist the law. Turley criticized the Special Counsel’s attempt to criminalize “alleged misinformation,” while McCarthy accused them of stretching the law to apply to Trump as a substitute for failed impeachment. McCarthy also condemned the Special Counsel for his “demagogic” statement on the matter.

Among Trump’s fellow candidates, Vivek Ramaswamy delivered the strongest response by condemning the new indictment. He called on all other candidates to join him in denouncing the Biden administration’s efforts to remove Trump from the contest. Ramaswamy labeled it as a political persecution disguised as a prosecution. While it might be easier for Ramaswamy to win if Trump were out of the picture, he emphasized that it was about standing up for “first principles.” He expressed concerns about the party in power using underhanded tactics to eliminate political opponents, remarking, “That’s exactly where we are.”
The corrupt federal police just won’t stop until they’ve achieved their mission: eliminate Trump. This is un-American & I commit to pardoning Trump for this indictment. Ramaswamy highlighted the fact that Trump had specifically instructed protesters to behave peacefully and patriotically, a detail that is often overlooked by the media and Democrats. He also pointed out the suppression of free speech leading up to this moment, including the censorship of the Hunter Biden laptop story by Twitter and the New York Post. Ramaswamy feared that if these issues were not addressed, the country could be facing even worse circumstances.
On the other hand, it seems that not all candidates are paying attention to Ramaswamy’s plea. Mike Pence, in particular, further damaged his campaign during an interview with Tucker Carlson at the Family Leadership Summit. Pence’s response to the Trump indictment on Twitter displayed a lack of understanding, claiming, “Today’s indictment serves as an important reminder: anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be President of the United States.” Pence’s words imply that Trump prioritized himself over the Constitution, which is a significant mischaracterization of events. This response does not resonate with many people and may harm Pence’s chances of making it to the second GOP debate.
It is disheartening to see Pence, even as he talks about the Constitution, miss the point about the government being weaponized against the American people. This failure demonstrates a lack of awareness and a massive problem for Pence’s campaign. It’s possible that with this kind of response, Pence has inadvertently dealt another blow to his campaign, pushing himself even further from the race.
