President Biden’s aides apparently turned the Oval Office into a high-stakes game of “protect the president,” as new revelations from the Wall Street Journal shed light on an elaborate cover-up of his health and capabilities leading up to the July debate. Interviews with nearly 50 insiders reveal a strikingly well-coordinated effort to keep the “diminished” commander-in-chief from facing the very real consequences of his fading mental acuity. Interestingly, concerns from cabinet members were exclusively fielded by aides, who appeared to fear that direct communication with Biden would result in devastating truths. Who needs honest discourse in politics when you can create a bubble in which the president hears only what he wants to hear? Thoughts of a more effective presidency were sacrificed at the altar of weakness. Meanwhile, aides had Biden practicing basic instructions—like where to walk—because what’s next? Do they hire a mime?

The grand finale of this tragicomedy came in July when Biden had a call with Democratic lawmakers aimed at soothing their nerves about his poor polling and overall viability. Instead of strengthening party morale, it quickly devolved into an uncomfortable confrontation, where Biden’s delusions were no match for the harsh reality reflected back at him. As everyone sat there, wondering if they were witnessing a political meltdown or the latest episode of a soap opera, the president abruptly announced he had to “go to church.” Unfortunately for him, his political career was about to hit the exit door even faster than he could say “amen.”
While aides juggled the rapidly falling social media and approval ratings, Biden’s isolation became glaringly obvious. When the dust settled, he ended up stepping back from the race just eight days later, seemingly oblivious to the storm brewing in his party.
