Youngkin Considered as Possible Trump VP Running Mate Amid Media Frenzy

Looks like Virginia’s Governor Glenn Youngkin has suddenly found himself in the political spotlight as a possible running mate for none other than Donald Trump. Just when the list of VP candidates seemed set in stone, here comes Youngkin galloping in like a knight in khaki pants. Trump himself teased the possibility on Fox News, saying he could consider Youngkin for the position. Of course, the media chatter has reached fever pitch, but everyone knows only Trump holds the golden key to that secret. Even if Youngkin doesn’t land the VP slot, he’s still throwing his weight behind the presumptive Republican nominee with a rally appearance this Friday, right after what’s shaping up to be a popcorn-worthy debate between Trump and Sleepy Joe Biden.

Youngkin’s first campaign trail appearance with Trump coming this Friday will be in the Virginia Beach/Chesapeake area. CBS News was quick to jump on this, with Olivia Rinaldi dutifully confirming Youngkin’s upcoming hand-holding session with Trump. She even reminded everyone on Twitter that this will be Youngkin’s maiden voyage on the Trump campaign ship. One could almost hear the liberal tears hitting their keyboards as they tweeted along.

Adding fuel to the speculative fire, Youngkin recently delivered a barnstorming speech at the Faith and Freedom Coalition conference. In classic rally-the-troops fashion, he emphasized the urgency of reclaiming Republican control in the House and Senate and reinstalling Trump in the Oval Office. His speech quickly became a highlight reel on social media, much to the chagrin of those dreaming of four more years of liberal policies gone haywire.

Despite the hoopla, some party insiders think Youngkin’s VP chances are slimmer than a Hollywood diet. Shaun Kenney of The Republican Standard pointed out that Youngkin might not be Trump’s best bet on a national level. Kenney suggests Youngkin could be more interested in a U.S. Senate run, which seems very likely in Virginia’s revolving door of gubernatorial-to-senate ambitions. But, hey, if offered, who in their right mind would turn down an opportunity to run with the Trump train?

Virginia, always one of those swingy, toe-the-line states, could get crazier than a college town on homecoming weekend if Youngkin does become Trump’s running mate. It would be a Republican triple-threat with Youngkin needing to help Trump win Virginia and fellow GOP candidate Hung Cao trying to unseat Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine. Virginia has leaned blue since 2008, but this election looks as unpredictable as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

Trump won’t keep us hanging for long, though. He teased over the weekend that he’s already picked his VP and, tantalizingly, hasn’t even told the lucky individual yet. He claims this chosen one will be at the debate on Thursday. Grab the popcorn, folks; this election season is already shaping up to be more entertaining than the last.
