AOC of Tennessee? Dem Hopeful’s Nashville Hate Exposed

A resurfaced 2020 podcast clip has the Democratic congressional hopeful Aftyn Behn admitting, in plain language, that she “hates” Nashville — a shocking confession for someone campaigning to represent parts of the city. Fox & Friends Weekend aired the clip and rightly called attention to the glaring disconnect between Behn’s words and the voters she claims to serve.

Behn is running in a high-stakes Dec. 2 special election for Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District, a seat Republicans cannot afford to lose in a district Donald Trump carried handily in 2024. Her candidacy, as Fox reports, puts her progressive, big-city sensibilities up against a solidly conservative electorate that expects respect for local culture and values.

Republicans and grassroots conservatives have pounced for good reason, framing this clip as proof Democrats are still out of touch with the heartland they so desperately want to win. The RNC and allied groups have seized on her comments, and outside conservative money is pouring in to make sure voters remember them before they cast ballots.

This isn’t an isolated moment of poor judgment — Behn also penned a 2019 op‑ed calling Tennessee’s government racist, a line of attack that further undercuts her claim to represent this state with integrity. Conservatives should point out that someone who disparages the people and culture of Tennessee shouldn’t be lauded as a legitimate voice for its communities.

Democrats, though, have been eager to elevate Behn as a rising progressive star — some even dubbing her the “AOC of Tennessee” — which tells you everything you need to know about their priorities. National party operatives pushing a coastal, culture-first agenda into Middle America is exactly why so many voters have turned away from the left in recent years.

The audio of Behn’s rant — where she lists bachelorettes, pedal taverns and country music among the things she hates — reads as disdain for the economic backbone of Nashville: tourism, entertainment and small businesses. Voters who work nights and weekends in restaurants and music venues deserve a representative who respects their livelihoods, not someone who sneers at them.

Patriotic, hardworking Tennesseans should treat this clip as a wake-up call: the left will happily parachute in candidates who scorn the people they hope to govern. If conservatives want to protect common-sense values and local pride in Washington, they must turn out and make sure someone who hates key parts of their district is not given a microphone in Congress.
