Arizona AG Kris Mayes Seeks DOJ Files In Trump Legal Drama Amid Judge’s Recent Block

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes has tossed her hat in the ring, requesting access to the files from disgraced former Special Counsel Jack Smith regarding the ever-buzzing legal saga surrounding President Donald Trump. Apparently, Mayes thinks it’s about time that the Department of Justice spill the beans on their old mysteries and mischief, reminiscent of a kid begging for their Halloween candy stash.

In her letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, which probably gave Garland a solid case of the Mondays, Mayes made it clear that she isn’t looking for just a peek at the curtain. Instead, she’s after the entire production—case files, the season finale, and maybe even the director’s cut of Jack Smith’s investigation into the 2020 presidential election drama. One can almost picture her pacing around, checking her watch, tapping her pen impatiently while pleading her case for complete disclosure, as if she’s auditioning for a role in the next courtroom drama.

Kris Mayes seems to be convinced this whole affair is akin to a grand political courtroom showdown that must unfold for the sake of democracy. In her mind, there’s a great evil afoot that needs to be purged. One might wonder if she thinks she’s channeling an old-timey sheriff in a local western, charged with bringing justice to the lawless frontier. Yes, those who dared to challenge the election results must face the music, or at least that’s what she wants everyone to believe.

However, the plot thickens! Just days before Mayes sent her request, Judge Aileen Cannon—yes, the same judge who previously put a pin in Smith’s haphazard attempts to bring down a sitting president—decided to temporarily slam the door on Smith and the DOJ’s plans to release everything Mayes is now frothing at the mouth to get. Cannon made it crystal clear that Smith’s appointment had already raised eyebrows and red flags louder than a Fourth of July fireworks display in D.C.

In a twist of irony that would make the best sitcom writers jealous, the recent surge of requests from Mayes comes just before Trump’s imminent inauguration. One can only imagine the backroom machinations and strategy sessions where Democrat lawyers sit around, counting down the days to their ever-evasive triumph. It’s as if they believe the shadows of legal battles will somehow cast a pall on the festivity of Trump’s return, when in reality, it’s just part of the same old playbook: slap a lawsuit on the table and hope people get distracted by all the legalese instead of watching the election spectacle with open eyes.
