Arsonist Strikes PA Gov; Bukele in DC; Blue Origin’s Speedy Voyage

A shocking act of violence unfolded in Pennsylvania as an arsonist targeted the official residence of Governor Josh Shapiro, setting fire to the home while the governor, his family, and guests were inside. The suspect, 38-year-old Cody Balmer, managed to breach security, enter the mansion, and ignite Molotov cocktails in the early hours of April 13. Thankfully, the Shapiro family and their guests escaped unharmed, but the attack caused significant damage to the historic residence and has sent shockwaves through the state and the nation.

This incident is yet another disturbing example of the rising tide of political violence that has plagued America in recent years. While the mainstream media and many on the left are quick to blame “rhetoric” in the abstract, it’s time to acknowledge that the normalization of political violence began years ago, when left-wing riots and attacks were excused or even celebrated by prominent Democrats and their allies in the press. The double standard is glaring: when violence is directed at conservatives, it’s often downplayed or rationalized, but when a Democrat is targeted, the calls for unity and civility suddenly become urgent.

The suspect, Balmer, reportedly harbored animosity toward Governor Shapiro and admitted to police that he would have assaulted the governor if given the chance. His background includes a history of criminal behavior and mental health struggles, yet, as is so often the case, the system failed to intervene before tragedy struck. Relatives had even reached out to authorities with concerns about his mental state, but their warnings went unheeded. This is a stark reminder of the consequences of a broken mental health system and the dangers of ignoring red flags in the name of political correctness or bureaucratic inertia.

It is also worth noting the glaring security failures that allowed this attack to happen. Despite the presence of state police and security measures, Balmer was able to scale a fence, enter the residence, and set the fire before escaping. This raises serious questions about the priorities of those tasked with protecting our leaders and their families. If the governor of a major state is vulnerable to such an attack, what does that say about the safety of ordinary Americans? Instead of focusing on political theater and virtue signaling, our leaders should be demanding accountability and real solutions to protect citizens from the growing threat of politically motivated violence.

Ultimately, this attack is a wake-up call for the nation. We must reject all forms of political violence, regardless of the target or the perpetrator’s ideology. But we must also be honest about where this culture of violence began and who has enabled it. It’s time for leaders at every level to stop excusing or ignoring violence when it suits their political agenda and to restore law, order, and respect for the rule of law. Only then can we hope to heal the divisions that threaten the very fabric of our republic.
