Senator Bernie Sanders has aptly unveiled yet another term to add to the Democratic lexicon: “pseudo-democracy.” This latest gem was shared during a recent CBS News Sunday Morning segment. According to Sanders, “pseudo-democracy” will now be the go-to phrase for Democrats when they’re feeling sorry for themselves after losing elections or when President Trump secures a second term. In the minds of the Left, the reason they lose must be that voters have tragically chosen the “wrong guy.”
In typical Sanders fashion, he lamented about the supposed domination of billionaires over the political process, particularly singling out Elon Musk. The Senator seems to believe that thanks to the infamous Citizens United decision, mega-rich individuals essentially run the country. He proposes that instead of celebrating America’s democracy, we should consider it a “pseudo-democracy.” This conveniently allows Democrats to slap a label on anyone who might think differently—the ultimate tool for those unable to grasp the concept of loss.
What’s especially refreshing about this label is its blatant hypocrisy. Wealth in politics is a two-way street, but Sanders only sees it when the money isn’t flowing to his party. Let’s not forget that billionaires like George Soros have packed millions into liberal campaigns without a peep from the Vermont senator. The criticism of Musk sprung up only after he joined the ranks of Trump supporters—a pattern that seems to be increasingly common in the Democratic narrative. The truth is, as long as the cash rolls in for Democrats, it’s all fair game.

It’s equally entertaining to realize how readily the Left resorts to name-calling when it comes to intra-party dissent. Sanders and his compatriots shower disdain on anyone who strays from their progressive script, as shown by the treatment of figures like Tulsi Gabbard and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Even liberal commentators like Matt Taibbi are not exempt from the wrath of the Left once they dare to critique the increasingly bizarre behavior surrounding censorship and free speech issues within their own ranks.
When Democrats lose an election, according to Sanders, the answer lies in shifting the narrative. It’s all about creating the illusion that the fundamental structure of American democracy has somehow failed rather than reflecting on why the public rejected their agenda. Clearly, the strategy is to paint the opposition as obtuse while bolstering their own warped understanding of political efficacy. The suggestion that voters are too ignorant to realize their own best interests has become an all-too-familiar refrain.
At the end of the day, the hyperbolic claims about money in politics serve to distract from the obvious: The Left has also amassed a goldmine of funding and influence. Their fixation on labeling the system as flawed only highlights their inability to accept defeat. So, while the Democrats whip out their new buzzword, voters would do well to keep in mind that every time the pendulum swings the other way, the real issue lies in their unwillingness to listen to the electorate.
