The Biden administration’s push for “green” energy continues with the U.S. Department of the Treasury releasing its “Principles for Net-Zero Financing & Investment.” While the administration claims these principles will help address climate change and seize economic opportunities, they are really just another step in the government’s attempt to control and manipulate the private sector. These principles include recommendations for financial institutions to make net-zero commitments, establish metrics and targets, align engagement practices, and be transparent about their commitments and progress. Essentially, the government wants to force companies to adopt their climate agenda or face legal jeopardy.
It’s no surprise that this move has faced backlash from conservatives and those concerned about government overreach. Will Hild, the executive director of Consumers’ Research, criticized Treasury Secretary Yellen for working with ESG activists and leaving consumers with nothing. Hild also pointed out that the Biden administration is filled with former BlackRock employees who prioritize liberal and progressive policies over reducing costs and inflation for everyday Americans. This net-zero push is just another example of the administration’s disregard for the American people and their well-being.

Furthermore, these net-zero commitments may not only be an infringement on the private sector, but also a violation of antitrust and consumer protection laws. Several state attorneys general have warned companies that their participation in net-zero alliances could lead to legal trouble. These alliances could be seen as colluding to manipulate market outcomes and limit consumer choices. Despite these warnings, the Biden administration and its climate alarmist allies are charging ahead, disregarding state law and the constitutional limits on their power. It’s clear that the Biden administration will stop at nothing to achieve their climate agenda, even if it means trampling over the rights of individuals and businesses.
It’s time for Americans to take a stand against this government intrusion and demand transparency and accountability from the Biden administration. The private sector should not be forced to adopt these net-zero principles that will have devastating economic consequences. Instead, the focus should be on reducing costs for consumers and promoting free market principles. The government needs to remember that decisions about energy policy should be made by elected representatives, not by corporate alliances or unelected bureaucrats. It’s time for the Biden administration to listen to the concerns of the American people and prioritize their needs over their own agenda.
